Who am I to be writing these books and hosting this site? Well, I’m an obsessive / compulsive who has spent the last fifteen years researching and pondering gender issues. I’m an avid member of both the National Coalition for Men and the Mankind Project and a student of psychology and a technical writer by trade. I’m also an educator and mentor to high school boys. Finally I facilitate the personal growth work of men on New Warrior Training Adventure (NWTA) weekends, and of men and women on personal growth weekends we call Path to Spirit.
I can relate to how an early feminist must have felt because I’m her mirror opposite. Like she before me, I’m haunted by a vision of the truths that are missing. The many downsides to the “Feminine Mystique” have been expounded upon endlessly since Betty Friedan first wrote on the subject back in 1963, but in all the years since, few authors or commentators have wondered aloud if there might be any downsides to the Masculine Mystique. If men were to wake up and speak up, we’d soon discover that every gender issue is two-sided. I seek this more balanced view, and I’ve found it in the vast permutations between love and respect.
